Intermediate and Advanced level members will be working in this group as part of their #202 Container training. Read More...
#202 | Container Training
Saturday, Sunday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM Intermediate Level, Advanced Level
Dorothy Gibbons, LCSW
The Container Role is an intermediate step in SCT training between being an SCT member and and an SCT leader. Through this training, Containers learn to develop a Group-as-a-Whole perspective by shifting their focus from joining a particular subgroup to resonating with and containing the apprehensive experience of every subgroup in the group. By developing resonance for every subgroup, the Containers become a resource for any subgroup that experiences difficulty in its development. While the Container Role increases the trainees' ability to resonate, it also increases the trainees' ability to observe the Group-as-a-Whole, noticing the particular phase of development of the group, the impact that each phase has on both the members and the leaders, and the defenses that are modified in each phase. During the Container Processing sessions, Containers will explore their own authority issues in relation to leadership and will explore how the work of the group and their own interventions and reactions relate to the Theory of Living Human Systems.
Although container training is offered during the conference week, the weekend training takes place within the context of an experiential group. This gives containers an opportunity to work within a new system as it develops and to practice their skills within a "nesting" of subsystems-the leader system, the container system and the member system.

Saturday, Sunday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM Foundation Level
Claudia Byram, Ph.D., CGP
Sometimes the more we talk, the worse things get! #206 | An Introduction to SCT and Its Applications in Clinical, Oganizational and Educational Contexts
Saturday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM Open to All Levels
Ray Haddock, MBChB, M.MedSc
Juliet Koprowska, MSW
Lucy Fine, MA, MFT
Irene McHenry, Ph.D.
This day is designed both for newcomers to SCT as well as those who already have some experience. It will introduce participants to the Theory of Living Human Systems and consider its application to a range of contexts, including clinical, organizational and educational. We will explore how the theory, linked with SCT methods, can be a powerful tool for implementing desired changes, and also for evaluating the success of the change strategy.
Participants will be introduced to Functional Subgrouping, which is the distinctive systems-centered method for building a positive group climate, resolving conflicts by integrating differences and enabling productive work to get done. The day will be participative with some experiential working to demonstrate methods.
"An Introduction to SCT and Its Applications in Clinical, Organizational and Educational Contexts" is a new offering this year, and provides introductory content on Saturday that may be taken by itself as a one-day institute, or may be paired with either "SCT in Clinical Practice" or "SCT in Organizational Work," which are offered on Sunday. For increased flexibility, attendees can register for either of these Sunday offerings as a one-day institutes as well. It is recommended that attendees who are new to SCT do not take just the Sunday offering without the benefit of the Saturday introductory institute, but more experienced attendees may wish to do so."
