Event Details

The annual training week in York is well-established and offers 5 parallel courses to meet participants' developing requirements. Two courses are open to all, and three depend on prior SCT experience and training. Choose one only.

Foundations of Systems-Centered Training - Led by Yvonne Agazarian & Mike Maher
• Understand the basic theory of SCT and how it can be applied
• Discover more about the impact that others have on you, and the influence you have on others
This training is for those new to SCT as well as those with previous SCT experience. You will learn foundational SCT theory and methods through skills training and the experience of working in a real-life group over the course of the week.
Monday-Thursday 9:00am-5:30pm, Friday 9:00am-1:15pm

Making Work Roles Work (for us and our organizations) - Led by Susan Gantt
• Understand how to use SCT to promote teamwork
• Explore how to use SCT to effect change at work
This experiential workshop is for those new to SCT as well as those with previous training wanting to apply their skills and explore their challenges in work roles. The content and experience of this workshop change every time, so if you've been before, you'll still have a new experience.

Intermediate Trainings
SCT Leadership Development - Led by Fran Carter & Annie MacIver
See and understand what is happening in a system: for those who have completed Intermediate Skills. Using members’ live case studies we will collect data, look at communication patterns, identify driving and restraining forces, and explore which restraining force to weaken at which boundary to support survival, development and transformation. Intermediate Skills Training (starting Sunday afternoon, Sep 10) - Led by Ray Haddock
Take the next step in SCT training, and learn how to put the SCT skills protocols into practice with others. Before registering, contact Ray Haddock (rayhad@doctors.org.uk) to discuss criteria. Applications are due July 6 with response by July 21.

Container Training (starting Sunday afternoon, Sep 10) - Led by Rowena Davis & Juliet Koprowska
Work as containers within Making Work Roles Work. You will learn to watch the group-as-a-whole and use the data in yourselves as potentially useful information about the system and its phase of development. Yvonne M. Agazarian Ed.D. agazarian@aol.com
Yvonne Agazarian, Ed.D., is Founder of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute. Over the years, she has had 7 faculty appointments. Dr. Agazarian has produced 60 publications. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association, a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and, in 1997, was named APA Group Psychologist of the year. Currently, Dr. Agazarian is teaching, training and consulting in a variety of countries around the world.

Susan P. Gantt Ph.D. sgantt@systemscentered.com
Susan Gantt, Ph.D., is Director of the System-Centered Training and Research Institute and a licensed SCT practitioner, based in Atlanta, USA. She consults and trains internationally in the USA and Europe. She worked for Emory University School of Medicine in the Psychiatry department for 29 years where she taught and coordinated group psychotherapy training. She has co-authored several texts with Yvonne Agazarian and has written about emotional intelligence in organisations and phases of development in organisational work groups.

Fran Carter MSS, LSW, CGP carter2229@aol.com
Frances Carter, MSS, LSW, CGP, is a Licensed Social Worker, living and working in the Philadelphia area. She maintains a clinical and consulting practice working with individuals, couples, groups and organizations. Fran is a founding member of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute, and a Board Member and System Mentor. She continues to be interested in the development of training,curriculum and research and has contributed her time to these work groups within SCTRI. She is a licensed Systems-Centered Practitioner and a senior trainer, leading workshops, ongoing training and consultation groups and intensive training blocks throughout the US and Europe. She is also a principle in SAVI Communications and the SAVI Network where she works with others to develop training in the SAVI approach to communication. She brings to all her work the energy and creativity of her early background as an artist.

Ray Haddock MBChB, M.MedSc rayhad@doctors.org.uk
Dr. Ray Haddock, MBChB, M.MedSc, is a licensed SCT practitioner and leads SCT training groups in London. He is also staff member on the annual SCT training in York, leading the Intermediate Skills Training. He has been an SCT trainer for 10 years leading many international SCT training events and workshops, including SCT Annual International Conference Co-Director in 2012 and 2013. In 2001 he took on responsibility for developing a Systemic Psychotherapy service including an innovative psycho-educational group. He has had many management and leadership roles including director of psychotherapy services, team work development, speciality tutor for core psychiatry training in psychotherapy and clinical lead for the Personality disorder specialist team implementing the National Institute of Clinical Excellence guidelines for treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder in Sheffield Health and Social Care Foundation Trust.

Rowena Davis MSc. rdavis@rdaconsulting.net
Rowena Davis, MSc., is an organisational consultant working with private, public & not-for-profit organisations internationally, coaching individuals & teams & facilitating change & leadership development. She runs SCT & SAVI trainings in the US & Europe. She is a licensed SCT practitioner, a certified SAVI trainer & a member of the Systems-Centered Training and Research Institute Board.

Mike Maher MA, PGCE mike.maher1@me.com
Mike Maher, MA, PGCE, is a psychotherapist, trainer and organisational consultant. He is a Licensed SCT Practitioner and Associate Director of SCTRI and leads an ongoing SCT training group. He was Deputy Director in a Therapeutic Community and subsequently he has developed a specialism in working with staff who work with client groups – adolescents and adults - characterised by their challenging natures. He has written papers and book chapters in working with staff groups, organisational issues in mental health reform, managing self-harm behaviours and other subjects, and has presented at many national and international conferences.

Juliet Koprowska MSW juliet.koprowska@york.ac.uk
Juliet Koprowska, MSW, Diploma in Counselling, has extensive experience of systems-centered training at an advanced level, most recently as a member of the group observing the last Authority Issue/Licensing Group. She is Senior Lecturer in Social Work at the University of York where her main roles are teaching qualifying and registered social workers. Her areas of expertise are communication, family work, group work, and field education. She researches communication in social work practice and is author of Communication and Interpersonal Skills in Social Work (4th edition). London: Sage Learning Matters, a book widely used on social work programmes in the UK. She organises the annual SCT event held n York, England.

Annie MacIver DipSW, MA annie.maciver@homecall.co.uk
Annie MacIver is Director of Family Operations for West Sussex County Council in the UK. She leads a workforce of 1200 and has responsibility for a budget of £90 million. The organisation's primary goals are to both safeguard and improve outcomes for vulnerable children in the county (population 1 million). Annie is a social worker by training and has undertaken most of the roles in that field in her career. Annie is a Licensed SCT practitioner and uses that training in her leadership and management role.
